Debut – Industry Panel and Showcase

Once again I felt very privileged to be invited to spend an evening with Chichester University Musical Theatre graduates of 2017. Debut 2017 took place on 7th July at the Electric Theatre, Guildford and consisted of an industry panel followed by their showcase. During the panel I tweeted live pieces of information from the informative panel as blogger in residence under the banner of CarnsTheatrePassion.Com.

The Debut Industry Panel

Seiriol Davies – Extraordinary Theatre Creator and Performer

Brenda Edwards – Actress and Singer

Carolyn Maitland – West End Actress, Singer and Dancer

Sasha Regan – Director and Owner of Fringe theatre The Union

Mark Shenton – Self-Confessed Theatre addict and Professional Critic

Facilitated and hosted by Carl Woodward

An insightful ninety minutes, full of top tips on what it’s really like to be working within the industry. If you would like to catch up on some of my tweets check out @CTheatrePassion on Twitter. where you will also find, news, reviews and interviews. Before leaving, the industry panel were asked for one final piece of advice:

Sasha Regan – Enjoy it, work hard, don’t judge yourself by other people’s careers – find your own path

Carolyn Maitland – Enjoy, always be a sponge

Brenda Edwards – Have self belief

Seiriol Davies – Find people you like to work with.

Debut Showcase

At the showcase I then swapped my role for one of talent scout for the wonderful R.D Casting, in the hope of spotting some fresh exciting talent. It’s undeniable that all of the students had worked very hard on their showcase and it was a joy to see. Not being there to review, it would be unfair of me to single out particular performers. What I will say is that there some very bright futures in store for these graduates.

Instead I am just going to list some of my favourite numbers from the eclectic song list:

Favourite Numbers

Screw Loose – Rebecca Lamburn

Morning Glow – Jack Murray, Alex Rea, Samantha Francis, Chanelle Camilleri and Ensemble

Random Black Girl – Ayesha Maynard

I’m A Woman – Sarah freer, Saskia Goodger, Ayesha Maynard

You’ll Never Walk Alone – Martha Avery, Laura Ashwell, Elise Arnold and Ensemble

Take Me Or Leave Me – Ayesha Maynard and Martha Boon

The vocals were strong and the dancing very well executed.  There was stage presence in abundance along with a high level of energy.

Well done to everyone involved you can be very proud, you gave good performances and put on a thoroughly entertaining show. I look forward to reviewing you for real in your professional debuts. And yes I did take some headshots and resumes on my way out and will be making contact with you shortly on behalf of Michael Moor and his Red Casting team.

Please do let me know how you progress, you can find me on Twitter via @CTheatrePassion, I look forward to hearing from you all very soon.
